DREAMING OF A BEAUTIFUL PAST
Title : Banyu Biru.
Director : Teddy
Staring : Tora Sudiro, Dian Sastro, Slamet Rahardjo.
This movie is about psychological, mental situation of Banyu, a young boy who works as a customer service officer in a super market. For those who like violence movie this movie maybe boring. But for those who are bored with violence movie, this one might be interesting.
Banyu (Tora Sudiro) came from a wealthy family. His father (Slamet Rahardjo) was a wealthy man. The family lived in a big house with a swimming pool. But they did not live a happy life. When Banyu was a kid her sister Biru died in a swimming pool at their house. The tragic loss was so hard for her mother that she could not stand it. She died not long after that. Banyu thought that his father did not care so he was disappointed. He left his home when he was very young.
He lived in a big city and never came home for ten years. One day he had to attend a seminar on employee productivity. It was so boring for the participants that some of them were very sleepy in during class. Banyu got bored so he fell asleep for a while.
In his dream Banyu went home. But as he got home he found out that his big house is now deserted. It was empty. He stepped inside only to find empty and dusty rooms. The lounge where his father used to dance with her mother was dirty. The chairs were still there but they were ruined. Only the frame left. Suddenly a beautiful girl came and greeted him. Her name was Sula. She lived at the backyard of Banyu’s house. They had a long conversation. Banyu was surprised that Sula knew him. Unfortunately she did not know where his father was. Soon Banyu fell in love with her. But Banyu had to leave her to find his father.
Then Banyu came to see her uncle (Didi Pethet) who was celebrating his fifth marriage. He told Banyu that his father lived in Pinang Island. So Banyu went to Pinang Island by boat. And there he met his father who lived alone as a scientist. They talked about their family. Unfortunately the conversation only leads to further misunderstanding with his father. Then Banyu left him with disappointment. When he was on the boat suddenly he was drowned. He woke up in panic. It was only a dream. He was still there, in the boring seminar.
Perhaps the dream is Banyu’s expectation of his past. He had a bitter experience with his family so he dreams of a beautiful past.
The strength of this movie lies in the acting of the actors and actresses, and the beautiful pictures. Dian Sastro, who played as Sula, is Indonesia’s best actress. So is Slamet Rahardjo who played as Banyu father. Tora Sudiro is also a good actor. The pictures are really good, especially the beach at sunset. It is excellent.
